Book Buzz

• Unless you live under a rock, you have probably heard about The Last Lecture. Randy Pausch has been featured on Oprah, a Diane Sawyer special, YouTube, and almost everywhere else. His book is currently #1 on Amazon’s bestsellers list—and out of stock. Now that’s a bestseller.

• The librarian in me must mention that it is currently National Library Week. USA Today reviewed two books by and about librarians: The Library at Night and Quiet, Please: Dispatches from a Public Librarian. My favorite library book? Quiet! There’s a Canary in the Library.

• The Miracle at Speedy Motors, the latest in the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, came out this week. USA Today has an interview with Alexander McCall Smith today.

• Oprah’s magic continues. Two books she featured in the past week are now bestsellers: Maria Shriver’s Just Who Will You Be? and David Scheff’s Beautiful Boy.

• Titlepage.tv is a new website (launched last month) that features authors talking about their books. I am interested to see how this site progresses. Of course, sometimes the worst thing about a book is the author. J.K. Rowling is doing a good job of disillusioning her fans in court.
